i think so often we, as humans, let our minds escape some crucial questions we need to be constantly asking ourselves. i mean, constantly. here are a few i felt laid on my heart. just as a disclaimer: every single one of these i myself am guilty of. i am not calling anyone out specifically but have felt all of these on my own personal heart & i pray that these help you to be more intentional daily.
number 1… why am i saying this?
this is such an important question !!!! exactly why i made it number one. is what you’re about to say uplifting? can it encourage someone? or… can it create drama or will it tear them down? if there’s even a slight chance that your words can hurt someone, DON’T SAY THEM !!!!
i also made this number one because it’s my biggest struggle. most times i don’t realize that what i’m saying can hurt someone until after i say it. it’s a process but it’s such a necessary one. words are so much more powerful than you may realize. if modern day Jesus wouldn’t say it, you shouldn’t either (preaching to myself so much rn). let everything said be said in love.
disclaimer: just because you think it, doesn’t mean you have to say it !!!!
2. what should i be (or not be) doing right now?
this is a big one… are you scrolling on your phone when you should be diving into the Word? i find myself doing this so often. it’s a personal struggle of mine to prioritize His Word over the social media world. it’s okay to be on social media, but if you’re on it more than you’re in God’s Word, that’s a problem (wow, that hit me too). prioritize Him daily & be intentional with it how you do it. He will bless you so much because of this !!!
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. // Matthew 6:6
it’s Sunday morning… are you laying in bed because you wanted to sleep in or are you at your church either attending service or serving? just an fyi… you may lose a couple hours of sleep, but losing sleep isn’t worth losing your passion for God. get up. go to church. ask how you can serve. it’s so worth it, i promise. don’t let your laziness hold you back from God.
3. for the ladies – why am i wearing this?
correct me if i’m wrong, but i think this is a struggle for most girls. i just went to mall of America and holy cannoli… it was SO hard to find modest clothing! but i promise, it is out there & can be SUPER cute! ladies, it’s (partially) up to us to not let our brothers stumble. if what you’re wearing even has a slight chance of allowing them to stumble, why wear it? sometimes we have to put others’ struggles before our wants & that’s okay. the world won’t end because you don’t get to wear a certain article of clothing (or the lack of)
4. why am i here, right now?
and… how can you make the most of it? you could literally be grocery shopping in walmart and ask yourself this question. God places us EVERYWHERE (!!!) for a reason. yes, even walmart. tell a stranger Jesus loves them. smile at them. compliment them. the love of God is needed everywhere & YOU could be the only Bible someone reads. even ask them if you can pray for (or over) them. this simple act could literally determine life & death for them. it’s okay to go out of your comfort zone. if you’re comfortable, you’re not doing something right. be the light to someone’s dark day.
6. why am i listening to this?
this is such a huge one and something i used to struggle with so much. i literally could not let go of secular music for the longest time… but if what you’re listening to can’t grow you spiritually, throw it out the window. there is no time to waste listening to something that doesn’t grow you or causes you to stumble. this isn’t saying you are limited to only worship music & if you don’t have personal convictions about listening to secular music, it’s okay!!! don’t feel like it’s a sin, just pray about it first.
what i like to do is before i turn on music is ask “God, how can you speak to me through this?” He can speak to you through all music, but i’ve found that worship music draws me closer to Him than anything else. or even podcasts! if you need some super good worship music to listen to, here’s my playlist.
6. why am i praying this right now?
before you ask God to meet your needs… remember that He already has. why pray for something that’s already been done? rather than “God, please give me strength.” let it be “God, help me to walk in the strength you’ve already given me.” it’s all about perspective.
pray specific prayers & God will meet specific needs.
it’s okay & sometimes necessary to pray for yourself, but pray for others most. i promise, you’ll always feel blessed when you do this.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
This, then, is how you should pray:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. // Matthew 6:7-13
7. last but not least… where’s my heart at?
are you choosing to do what you’re doing just for the blessing, or to BE a blessing? are you continually sacrificing your happiness to ensure others’ happiness? it’s so important to know & recognize your own intentions. know where your heart’s at. if your heart’s not fully rested in God & His truth, the fruits you bear will show it.
would Jesus have the same heart you have right now? or is it full of bitterness & unforgiveness? if you look at everyone as someone Jesus thought was worth dying for… you’ll have nothing but love & grace for them. i see too many “Christians” going out of their way to tear others down, whether it’s an individual or a church. this is not how it should be. we are called to look like Jesus, not the world. this means how we dress, think, speak and love. everything the world does, do opposite. let others look at you & wonder why you’re different. smile even when it’s the last thing you want to do. let them rack their brains around what’s so different about us. if people who don’t know Jesus can’t see Him in you… it’s time to do something different.
be intentional with your words, thoughts & your actions.

I love this article! Not everyone can write this well, but I loved how you summarized everything and your blog is one of the most memorable I’ve visited. I also think those points are very true. Music influences us in ways we probably don’t even think of. I had one friend who loves pop music and unfortunately…she’s living it
You have a great playlist! Thank you for that 🙂 You might also want to try the songs of Victory Worship or Every Nation Music, 🙂 their songs are great too 🙂
